Irvington holds 1,231 residents on 0.88 square miles that the census bureau records as entirely dry, with no water inside the city line. It sits at 620 feet, or 189 metres, and keeps Central time while most of Kentucky's east runs an hour ahead. A town this compact makes a quiet corner at home easy enough to keep.
Irvington runs on Central time, so anything set from Madison Heights lands an hour earlier on the clocks here. The 270 and 364 area codes reach the same phones, and a package addressed to 40146 arrives without a trip out of Breckinridge County.
The railroad made this town in the late 1880s, and the street pattern still answers to that beginning. The name arrived at one remove, borrowed from Irvington in New York state rather than from anyone who settled this ground. The commercial core stands as a National Register historic district, so the old storefronts still carry the record of that founding decade. Summers fall under the humid subtropical class, Cfa, which brings heavy air that many people feel in their sleep and their mood. The infobox for this home rule-class city leaves nickname and motto blank, with no slogan on file for anyone to repeat. The three population-estimate slots sit empty as well, so nothing official follows the 2020 count. A flag and a seal do exist, though plain text renderings of the page never show either one.
