Nevada's capital since 1861, Carson City sits at the base of the Sierra Nevada along the Carson River, less than thirty minutes from Lake Tahoe. Its four-season mix of summit hikes, kayaking, winter sports, and walkable historic streets gives the city a naturally restorative, outdoor rhythm.
The Legislature meets here in odd-numbered years, and downtown fills with long working days and extra traffic while it sits. Distance Reiki asks nothing of that calendar, since there is no room to reach and no parking to find. Essences mixed for you in Michigan come through the mail, ready for the quieter stretches between.
Fremont named the river through this valley for the mountain man Kit Carson in 1843, and when Abraham Curry bought Eagle Station in 1858 the settlement took the same name. Silver and gold on the Comstock Lode in 1859 nearby made the town grow. The United States operated the Carson City Mint here from 1870 to 1893, striking gold and silver coins carrying the CC mark that collectors still hunt. On April 1, 1969 Ormsby County and Carson City merged into a single Consolidated Municipality, following a statewide referendum in 1966 and a constitutional amendment in 1968, so the city has no surrounding county.
