Many Stroudsburg households begin the day on I-80 heading east toward New Jersey and New York, then finish it the same way in reverse. Adding an evening drive on top is a lot to ask of anyone, so the work happens at a distance instead. Sprays and hand-blended essences do the traveling for you, coming east from Michigan.
Colonel Jacob Stroud laid this town out in 1799 and it was incorporated on February 5, 1815. It sits where three streams come together, the Brodhead, the McMichaels and the Pocono, about five miles from the Delaware Water Gap, which is the notch the river cut through the ridge and the reason the road and the rail both come this way. That confluence and that gap are the whole geographic argument for the town being here at all. Beyond the founding and the water, the verifiable local record is thinner than it is for older Pennsylvania boroughs, and it is better to say so than to fill the space.
